Transporting Schema

Does your child keep themselves busy carrying toys, kitchen utensils, socks and large pieces of furniture from one room to another? Do they love to load up a dump truck with sand and drive it around the garden? They might be exploring the Transporting Schema.

It feels good to complete a task by moving things from point a to point b. This skill is important as we grow because we do often need to move our food from the supermarket to our kitchen, and then put it away in the correct place. We also need to know how to load up a car to take a road trip or go for a walk and end up back home with all our possessions intact.

Discovery Time provides ways to explore the Transporting Schema with

  • opportunities to carry objects across the Atelier to create a new experience.
  • choosing which tools or materials would best suit a task, collecting them from the shelves, and bringing them to the work surface.
